Visit The Guitar Classroom to learn the guitar
I wanted to build a guitar, but I knew i would not have the skills to do it from scratch. Then I turned to electric guitar kits. It seemed much easier than expected, and even more rewarding.
A guitar kit is a construction project to create a fully functioning professional guitar. All you need is in the box and ready for use. Everything is designed to make it as easy as possible, including holes and cavities are pre-drilled and no special tools required, and must have all the tools needed and if not, a friend or neighbor. You need the following – screwdriver, saw or coping saw, sandpaper (various grades), a knife and a wood file. That’ it.
You can ask the question. Why do we need a saw? more often than not electric guitar kits come with a blank head to help you design your own form and further emphasize that this is your guitar. The kit, among other things had a headstock with three tuners per side (pre-drilled holes). So to make sure my design is symmetrical, I found in the vertical centre and use a piece of paper to draw only one half the way I wanted to headstock to look, and then simply turned around and copied on the other half. cut with the saw, then adjusted with sandpaper until it is flawless and smooth.
was the paint job. The wood needs to be resanded before the paint job is started. Although the body has been sanded and sealed at the factory I found my kit was not a great job so I decided to re-sand the body begins the course on paper and switch to a wet and dry sandpaper to get a really professional look . I chose a dark blue for the colour of the guitar and I used spray paint that I brought to my shop for auto parts. It took four layers until I was satisfied with it, and then I gave it another double clear to shine and protect the paint. I liked headstock just natural spray to protect the wood. I could then attach the neck and body which was just a metal plate and four screws.
Biggest concern for me when I was thinking about building an electric guitar package is electrification. I was not confident i could do the pickup electrical switches and knobs, guess what well, I do not. The kit i had brought was all pre-wired I just feed them in the holes and the body of the guitar and the job was finished. I plugged in my amp and was really amazed, it is something I had done and it sounded good. It really encouraged me to play more often and better. I will definitely building more electric guitar kits again, and in fact I encourage you to do the same.
